Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent)
This category applies to non-EU individuals who are exceptionally talented in particular fields and who would like to live and work in the UK. Under this visa, successful applicants may stay in the UK for a period of three years and four months and may be granted a further extension of two years.
Applicants must be internationally recognised as leaders or potential leaders in the fields of science, humanities, engineering and the arts. This must be supported via an endorsement from a Designated Competent Body. The endorsement will be granted where the applicant has successfully met the set criteria of the relevant Body. Currently, the Designated Competent Bodies are:
- Arts Council England
- The British Academy
- The Royal Society
- The Royal Academy of Engineering.
Between 6 April 2012 and 5 April 2013, there is a limit of 1,000 endorsements that can be granted.
Applicants must not be already living in the UK.
